Battle of honour… for honour..!

UPA-1 Vs UPA-2

A battle that emerged from the flames of the votes and more from the ashes (if not the bones alone) of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), that has taken the debate to the public forum and has showed us the dirtiest of political linen, is the race towards power. History has it all – brothers fighting amongst themselves for the thrown… for money and eventually for power. The present scenario in Indian Governance is quite a silent testimony to the very same culture that remains as a binding law of nature for the human fraternity. Our mindset and the race and competition for power and more importantly for ‘being recognized’ has taken a toll and thrown us into the world of unethical practice where twisting is the ethics.

To write about the present Indian political scenario, I want to take an example of a recent happening that had shown us how far one can politicize a situation which is nothing but a mere general service to the citizens.

A train (definitely of the Indian Railways) was introduced in 2007 by the then Railways Minister, Laloo Prasad Yadav, the karta-dharta of RJD. The train was named Pratham Swatantrata Sangram Express and plied between Barrackpore (near Kolkata) to Jhansi. The train marked the 150th Centenary of the First war for Indian Independence. The then ‘Left hand’ of the UPA -1 government, the Leftist took great honour an presented before the people of Bengal that they are the ones because of whom the train is being introduced.

Taking a twist to the tale, when UPA-2 came to power and after the ‘change of hands’ (Trinmool Congress supporting the new UPA and Leftist no-where), and also the wishes of slightly ‘propagand-ish’ Mamata Banerjee, the name of the Train changed to Sipahi Express and there occurred a slight change in the destination, rather the starting station (whatever you wish to say). Now the train plies from Kolkata (Chitpoore) station to Jhansi.

How the ever crying Left can digest this? How they can give a chance to Mamata Banerjee to take away all the credit for the “WORK” they have done?

On the part of Mamata also, it was somewhat like selling the same biscuit with the wrappers and the brand name changed..! Earlier, when the train was being introduced there was a detailed discussion in the Parliament on the name during Supplementary Demands for Grants for Railways in August 2007 and the members had objected to it being called Gadar Express, which was the first proposed name.

Now CPI(M) MP Basudeb Acharia has moved to the Prime Minister to find a solution to the “stalemate” situation. He even criticized Mamata Banerjee of dishonoring the 1st war of Indian Independence.

Well…. all said… I wonder what Laloo Prasad Yadav have to say on that…. and what about you dear reader?
