Social Media is the new craze! From mobile phones to web browsers, all are integrating to the tune of Social Media and adjusting to “sign-in” the social media buzz into itself! A Facebook phone… free social media usage by a mobile phone network and many more! The beautifully designed logos of Facebook, Twitter, Orkut, Buzz, Hi5, Bebo, You Tube, LinkedIn… (and a lot many) are always on display in the billboards nearby the crossroads!
To be very frank, ‘Boss social media is the latest buzz and in some way or the other everyone is touched by it – whatever be the reason!’ From just meeting points, the social media has transformed into a business platform and opened doors to the marketing freaks who ‘some days back’ were searching for newer ventures to prank for feeds! One of the largest social media sensation Twitter has become the most seeked sought tool by the internet marketing agencies to flood-in the urls to their hopeful clients.
With this growth and impact of Social Media on our businesses, the growth of Social Media as a career option has too become very bright. Many companies are seeking Social Media Marketing in addition to basic Public Relations and hence companies integrating both the services are taking birth at a bizarre rate as if they want to overcome the population explosion of India and China combined together.
A recent study revealed that students actively use social media to research companies and confirm their brand messages. Public Relations is now not only confined to Corporate Communications or Corporate Social Responsibility but has moved on to capture the domain of social media – after all this is the meeting point of the society. Isn’t it? As many as 42 percent of students believe that social media is the ideal platform to “communicate and discuss” a problem and a 56 percent feels that social media gives a feeling of the organization. In turn the companies too are passing on the benefits of social media to the candidates as many look into the aspects of social media networking abilities to shape up the future of the candidate.
Being social has always been the character of human beings; as I have discussed earlier. So social media is giving the platform to be more social and network yourself to the new found paradigm of “pen friend” i.e the “Social Friend”. Great start buddy! Nice blog. All this while I have wondering how's social media picking up in India? Your blog definitely give me some answers to that. Yeah, I agree social media is the latest buzz word…but this is also true that before jumping on to the bandwagon brands need to be prepared to loose control which has been one of the fundamental problems with using social media. Recent examples of Vodafone UK and Dominos are great case studies to exemplify the fact that social media can turn negative if not managed properly. It's a platform for conversations and not sales. Brands need to adopt a human personality.

Well researched stuff JD.Good,keep it up.According to me, social media is rather being used for promoting business than actually building network.It reaches to million of customers in a day and giving a cut throat competition to other media as well.'Bad news spreads like a fire' and social media is acting as putting oil over it.Who doesn't want to be good in front of public? Problem arises when the same tool is used to spread bad news and one becomes almost handicap in controlling it.So,it's very important to know how to keep control over this tool.Even journalist refer social media for news.Most of the PR agencies have already started making social media as different department/section which in turn open a huge opportunity for new generation.
