Micro-blogs that ‘hurts’ – Twitter

Filed in Articles , Media 5 comments

Ever heard about Shashi Tharoor when he was Indian representative at the United Nation Organisation? Yes! Then you score one mark for following real news! And believe me; most of us will tend to lose this mark. Media arrests only those persons who can give news that is sensational in nature – the news that is liked by all. If it’s not interesting, it won’t sell and hence it’s not news at all!

Being a Member of Parliament from Kerala state, Shashi Tharoor has tried a lot to make some changes to the present Indian System by being in the system. Many say he is innocent enough and doesn’t know the functioning of Indian Bureaucracy and hence falls prey to controversy. Yes “social media controversy man” can be his second name – thanks to Twitter and his love to be connected to this micro blogging wonder.

Spoken words are like two way swords – if not oriented properly, they might hurt you badly! Communication is becoming sharp in nature; and ‘agents’ like Facebook, Twitter, Orkut and lots are taking the sword to social media communication too. Any change to your relationship status brings in lots of comments like “Who is she?” or “Why you left her?”; which are quite tough to be answered! Once the word is out, nothing holds back.

Maybe our dear and Twitter’s dearer Shashi Tharoor has not gone to this class and he needs to learn many a things. Taming the media is not possible – specially the print and the television media. So a process has to be found out to make the best use of the media – Rahul Gandhi is a master at it! A “cattle class” remark won’t be liked by the “emotional” Indians, sir. Nor does your association with an IPL team will be liked by your Godfather, Congress – at least in public! And the media won’t at all!

Some words of ‘wisdom’ for Mr. Lalit Modi too. Indian Premiere League has been a massive hit – all agree to that. But media’s role in making it a hit can never be overlooked. So a sense of handling this media properly should be learnt by heart now. It almost backfired when IPL decided; rather Modi did; to censor media coverage of IPL matches! It almost did…

Controversies creeping out of Twitter, Facebook and such makes us believe that just right to speech or a platform to converse won’t at all help until and unless the message is accustomed to suit the mindset of the living generations. Time has changed and now it’s not that you write a love letter, tear it in the morning thinking to write better and none knows of it! Even Sania Mirza wearing mom’s dress and Hydrabadi Biryaani served at the Taj becomes a “Breaking News”! Why the hell I was watching the program, I don’t know! Maybe the media appointed some good psychologists and they are reading my personality traits the very best way… What the hell I am doing… beep… beep…

All said, I want to add that please bear some “break”, rather apply it, Mr and Mrs Celebrities! Don’t give the media a chance to laugh at you and don’t at all feed me with “breaking news” like “Ashwariya Rai vomits today; first after marriage – any good news?” Phew…

@Parth J Dave: No one can tug your lips together. Truth has to come out in open! At least at times…
Thanks for the support.
Keep blogging…

#3 Samuel :

I heard about Shashi Tharoor when he was Under Secretary General at the UN.. Used to love his articles in India Today.. And I do believe that he is not naive and fully knows the risks of being on twitter while holding an important public office.. He is just trying to be frank, and that is a trait which should be encouraged in all our politicians.. The truth always wins out in the end – no amount of filthy mudslinging can change that..

@Samuel: I appreciate the fact that some politicians are trying to communicate and be more clear. But the situation can back fire if the message is not clear enough. After all with the smell of Lotus, there is a good chance that you end up mud-ing yourself!
